GeoLocale was built to respect your privacy. This policy explains, in plain language, what happens with data when you use the app. The short version: GeoLocale has no accounts, collects no personal information about you, and does not track you.

Information we collect

None that identifies you. GeoLocale has no sign-up or login and no advertising. The website counts page views using Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookie, stores nothing on your device and does not build a profile of you or follow you to other sites; see Cookies below. The iOS app does not do even that. As the developer, we do not collect, receive, or store any personal information about you or your device.

Information stored on your device

The choices you make during setup, such as your household type, budget range, and the priorities you care about, along with cached map information, are saved locally on your device so the app can remember them and load faster. This information stays on your device. It is never sent to us and is not linked to your identity. Deleting the app removes it.

Location

GeoLocale only asks for your location when you tap the location button in the city search, and never otherwise. The map opens on the cities and neighborhoods you choose to explore.

When you do tap it, your device gives us a one-off coordinate. We use it for one thing: to work out which of our covered cities you are in, and open it. The coordinate is not stored on your device, is not sent to us or to anyone else, and is discarded as soon as the city opens. If you refuse, or your device cannot get a fix, nothing is sent anywhere and you can search for a city by name instead.

You can withdraw the permission at any time in your device settings, and the rest of the app carries on working exactly as before.

Maps and place data

To show maps and the real places used in neighborhood scores, GeoLocale requests maps from Mapbox and points-of-interest data from OpenStreetMap's Overpass service. As with any request over the internet, these independent services receive your device's IP address and the map area (coordinates) you are viewing; Mapbox also uses this to provide the travel-time and reachable-area features. We do not send them any personal information about you. These services are operated by third parties under their own privacy practices — see Mapbox at mapbox.com/legal/privacy and OpenStreetMap at openstreetmap.org.

In-app help assistant

If you use the in-app help assistant, the messages you type are sent to Anthropic's API to generate a reply. Please don't include sensitive personal information in those messages. We don't link these messages to your identity, and Anthropic processes them under its own terms.

Booking a stay

Hotel and apartment listings, their photos, ratings and prices come from our booking provider, LiteAPI. To show you what is available we send them a map area, your chosen dates and the number of guests. We do not send them anything that identifies you.

If you go on to book, the checkout runs inside GeoLocale. You give us the guest's first name, last name and email address, and optionally a phone number. We pass those to the booking provider and on to the hotel, because a booking cannot exist without them. We do not keep our own copy, and we do not use them for marketing.

The card is the exception, deliberately. It is entered into the booking provider's own payment form, which runs in their frame inside our page. Your card number never reaches GeoLocale's code or servers, is never sent in any request we make, and is never stored by us. The provider (Nuitée) is the merchant of record and handles the payment under their own privacy policy.

Each booking is given a reference we generate, and the provider stores that reference against it. That is how we can tell that a booking came through GeoLocale. The booking record itself is held by the provider, not by us.

Links to other sites

GeoLocale may include links to property portals and map services. If you choose to open one, you leave GeoLocale, and that website's own privacy policy applies to what happens there.

No ads and no data sales

We do not show advertising, and we do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone. There is nothing to sell, because we do not collect it in the first place.

Cookies and local storage

GeoLocale sets no cookies. It uses your browser's local storage to remember the choices described above, which stays on your device and is readable only by this site.

The website measures how many people visit which pages using Cloudflare Web Analytics. It was chosen because it works without a cookie and without any identifier stored on your device: it counts a page view and the country and referring site it came from, and it cannot tell that the same person returned. That is also why this site shows you no cookie consent banner. There is no advertising tracker of any kind. The iOS app loads no analytics at all.

How long anything is kept

We hold no personal data of our own. Booking details you enter are passed straight to the booking provider and the hotel and are not stored on our servers, so there is nothing on our side to keep. What is stored on your device stays until you clear it. Our servers keep ordinary short-lived request logs, which contain an IP address and are retained for a matter of days by our hosting provider before being discarded.

Your choices

Because we hold nothing about you, there is no account to close and no data of yours for us to delete. Everything the app remembers lives on your device, and you can remove all of it at any time: clear the site data in your browser, or delete the app. If you believe we hold something about you and want it removed, email support@geolocale.io and we will look into it.

Children

GeoLocale is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will post the updated version on this page and revise the effective date above.
